Chan master of Wenzhou, a dharma heir of Mazu Daoyi, 南嶽下二世. Whenever anyone approached he would plant his staff on the ground and say 'The buddhas before were just so; the buddhas after are just so.' Asked what the 'different species' is, he tapped his bowl and called 'Huanu! Huanu! Come and eat!'
