Wufeng Ruxue, Chan master of Dawei, a dharma heir of Miyun Yuanwu of Tiantong and, by his own stupa inscription, the 35th generation in the direct Linji succession traced back through Nanyue. His recorded sayings survive as J25nB175 大溈五峰學禪師語錄. Recalling his career he dismissed it: 'braving cold and heat for twenty-six years, covering tens of thousands of li — all upside-down dreams and illusion, mind and strength wasted in vain; what is any of it worth mentioning?' He had earlier gone into sealed retreat at Hongji monastery in Nanjing.
