Wei'an Liangfan, Chan master of Wuhui in Anjizhou, a dharma heir of Changling Shouzhuo in the Linji line, recorded in the 續傳燈錄. His sermon on the matter before the dust-kalpas: 'Upright, with no front or back; motion and stillness cannot cover it; it rolls out and up quick as lightning.' On Zhaozhou's 'the Way is not difficult, it only dislikes picking and choosing' he said Zhaozhou had an eye on the crown of his head, sorting black from white in a spark from struck stone, seizing and releasing in a lightning flash.
