Song-dynasty Linji (Yangqi) master of 無為 in Hanzhou, a native of Fucheng and one of the roughly twenty dharma heirs of 五祖法演 (d. 1104) — making him a dharma brother of 圜悟克勤, 佛鑑慧懃 and 佛眼清遠. The lamps record his awakening around Zhaozhou's 'go wash your bowl' huatou, which Fayan set him on the day he offered incense, and the sharp follow-up in which Fayan told him 「爾秖知路上事，不知路上滋味」 ('You only know what's on the road; you don't know the road's flavour').
