Wuwen Benjiong, a native of Dinghai in Siming surnamed Xie. He left home at fourteen at Wutai monastery in his prefecture, took full ordination and studied the Vinaya strictly, then heard that Gufeng Dewang was teaching at Baoning and went to knock. Dewang asked him to recite his matching verses on Liangshan's Ten Oxherding Songs and, as he opened his mouth, clapped a hand over it: 'Where is the ox?' — 'I have already trampled your crops,' he said; told 'not yet, say more,' he covered his ears and walked out, and Dewang marked him. He later became abbot of Lingyin in Hangzhou.
