From Wutang, lay surname Ju; fostered into the Zhang family of Danghu. He married and had a son. At twenty-seven a pair of dreams turned him toward leaving home; at thirty-one he abandoned his household and went to East Mountain at Tianmu to be tonsured by Bianzhi of western Shu, who set him on 'your face before your parents were born'. He met Miyun at Tiantong, then attached himself to Linye Tongqi, following him to Guanghua and Tongxuan. Linye gave him the transmission in the spring of 1649. He opened the dharma at Guanghua Chan monastery in Yuhang. Four or more heirs are recorded.
