From Daizhou (Shanxi), lay surname Bian, born 1608. He would not eat meat as a child and liked to sit still; he was tonsured barely past ten and travelled widely. He took full precepts from Miyun Yuanwu at Tiantong and had his first opening at the sound of a rockfall. He then went to Feiyin Tongrong and received his dharma. In 1661 he was installed at the Xuanfochang at Kunshan near Suzhou at the invitation of the Bordered Yellow Banner general Li and the local gentry; he later held Weimo monastery at Changshu. He died in the winter of 1678, aged seventy-one, after sixty-one years in robes, and his stupa stands at Weimo. Over twenty heirs are recorded.
