Xuetang Daoxing 雪堂道行

Linji (Yangqi branch) master (1089-1151), styled Xuetang 雪堂, full title 衢州烏巨雪堂道行禪師. A native of Kuocang in Chuzhou 處州括蒼, surname Ye 葉. Ordained at nineteen under Jueyin Ziying at Puzhao; after a fruitless stay with Zhiyuan Run he went to Longmen and became attendant to Foyan Qingyuan, awakening on the story of Xuansha stubbing his toe, and inherited Foyan's dharma. From Jianyan 2 (1128) he opened the hall at Shouning, then successively led Fahai, Tianning, Nanming and Wuju, declining eight later invitations to major monasteries; he died at Jianfu in Raozhou. Author of 雪堂行和尚語要 and 雪堂行和尚拾遺錄; Dahui Zonggao wrote the preface to his recorded sayings.
