Tonsured at twenty-one at Tiantong and ordained three years later, he studied with Muyun Tongmen and then attached himself to Muchen Daomin (Hongjue), from whom he received the dharma after fifteen years of hammering. He was installed at Shending in Tanzhou in 1656, succeeded Daomin in the seat of Tiantong in 1661, and then held Ruiyan (1670), Pingyang (1674) and Baiyun (1679). He died in the 4th month of 1682, aged 61; his heir was Yikui Yuankui.
