Northern Song Linji (Huanglong) master (1047-1114), full title 江州圓通圓機道旻禪師. A native of Xinghua, surname Cai 蔡; he left home under Dexiang of Jingde monastery. He first followed Weishan Muzhe, then received the seal from Letan Yingqian. Early in Huizong's reign he opened the hall at Guanxi and later moved to Yuantong in Jiangzhou. In the Zhenghe era he was granted the title Yuanji Chanshi 圓機禪師, and popular devotion came to call him 「圓機古佛」 — the Ancient Buddha Yuanji. He left both monastic heirs and a notable circle of官員 lay heirs.
