Linji master of the Yangqi line, tenth generation. His dharma name is never given — the record calls him only 'the venerable Yuejian'. He followed Xiyan Liaohui, abbot of Tiantong, for six years. On the third day of the third month of 1264 he was invited from the head-seat quarters at Jianfu in Raozhou to take Ehu Renshou monastery in Xinzhou; he later held Tianning and Jianfu in Raozhou, and Jianfu a second time. At the anniversary of Xiyan's death he offered incense year after year with fierce, mocking affection: 'he is a man of the Penglai mountains — only Penglai incense will do to offer him.' His record was edited by his heir Miaoyin and prefaced in 1284.
