Of Zhongzhou in Sichuan. He belonged to the Juyun (聚雲) house and was a disciple of ER'AN DENGSONG (耳菴燈嵩), who had received the robe and bowl from 'Patriarch Three-Slaps' (三巴掌 = Tiemei Huili). Sanshan Denglai, at whose assembly Yumei was a fellow-student, pointed him out and said 'this is Brother Er'an's lion cub'. He was received as abbot of Tianning Chan monastery on Mt. Wufeng in Zhongzhou on the eighteenth of the ninth month of 1669, and he refers to his late master throughout as 'the old abbot of Tianning'. His recorded sayings in one fascicle survive.
