Of Quxian in Shunqing, western Shu; his father was a Li (李), his mother a He (何). He was sent as a boy to Shuiyue hermitage in his own village and ordained under Liudu; he took full precepts at twenty. Hearing the Lotus line 'whether sitting or walking, banish sleep and always collect the mind', he had an opening. He was beaten out of the hall by Sheme Shepu, then went to Mt. Huangbo and put a question to Xiangya Xingting, who told him he deserved thirty blows — at which his doubt fell away. He served Xingting six years and received the transmission. He lived through the sack of Sichuan by Zhang Xianzhong's armies, and taught on regardless. He held Sansheng, Wudeng, Yungui in Guizhou, Qingliang and Changshou at Anshun, and Zhonghe at Yongning. Going down to Chu, he stopped three years at Chongfu on the Zi river, then in the spring of 1664 entered the derelict Xifeng monastery and rebuilt it entire in ten years; he also moved his master Xingting's stupa to Youyang and reburied it behind the monastery. He died on the twenty-ninth of the fifth month of 1673, aged 61, with 42 years in robes.
