Of Zhongzhou in Sichuan; lay surname Wan (萬). He wanted to leave the world as a child and got his parents' leave; he left home at sixteen and at twenty-two took the precepts from XIANGYA XINGTING, whom he attended for three years. He then travelled to seek the way, went to Shuanggui and met POSHAN HAIMING, submitted to him and took the disciple's place, and shirked no labour; in time he was made prior. He was invited to Bazhou and preached at Zhongfeng and Jingci. He is described as unbending to the last and never willing to borrow another man's authority. On the sixteenth of the fourth month of 1669 he sat down in the hall at Shigu monastery in his own prefecture after the morning gruel, put out his right foot, said 'Do you understand? I am going; the whole ten-direction world is just THIS', spoke a verse, and died — aged 47, with 25 years in robes. Five heirs, among them Lüluo Hengxiu, raised his stupa to the left of Shigu monastery.
