Yushan Shangsi 雨山上思

School: Linji | 1630–1688 | Teacher: Jubo Heng

From Taizhou, lay surname Yu, born 1630. He went to Tianning in his prefecture, where Jubo Jiheng was carrying on Lingyin's line and 'making the single lamp of Sanfeng burn north of the Yangtze'. He was tonsured at Jingye hermitage and took the precepts from Jiheng; he then went south to Judé at Lingyin, who told him 'your affinity lies at Tianning — go'. He returned, received Jiheng's dharma, and succeeded him. He held Jinghu on Lushan, Qingyun, Falun, Baiyun, Tianning at Yangzhou, Dajue, Jile and Qingliang. He died in 1688, aged fifty-nine.
