Of the Song clan of Ba county in western Shu, born on the twenty-fifth of the fifth month, 1611. Orphaned young and raised by his grandmother, he left home at twenty-three at the Baihe hermitage under the old monk Xingkong and practised the perfection of patience. A wandering monk sent him to Poxue (Xuebi Yinluan); he served six years, and when his master died he set out to travel. At Chongqing he had his understanding confirmed. He went into Guizhou and opened the dharma at Baoguo Chan monastery on Mount Muni, founded Chuanfa monastery at Xishan, and later held Qianming at Deshan in Dingzhou. He died on the fifth of the tenth month, 1666, in the guest hall of Tiantong monastery — where he had gone to sweep the stupa of the patriarch Miyun. His disciples carried his bones back to Guizhou and built his stupa by the Phoenix Pool at Xishan.
