A Caodong master. The lamps say he was of the Zhang clan of Shangyu in Kuaiji, tonsured as a boy under Chengzhao Daoning, that he called on Zhenxie Qingliao at Changlu at twenty with some result, and then went home to Hongzhi Zhengjue at Tiantong, who acknowledged him as a true son of the inner room. He opened the dharma at Butuo in 1137, then Wanshou, Jixiang and Xuedou; in 1176 he was ordered to take Jingci monastery in Lin'an, and in 1180 retired to Xuedou. His own stupa inscription tells a different story (see below). Thirteen of his heirs are named.
