Five Dynasties Chan master of Zifu in Shaozhou, a dharma heir of Yunmen Wenyan and thus a first-generation Yunmen master. He is remembered for refusing a monk's request for the mind-seal — 'I don't answer that question; it would not match what was said before' — and for his verse reply on Yunmen's 'guan-jian-yi': 'the phrase before the point transcends the Tamer; ask how, and you miss it for kalpas.'
